Refinery29 featured HSS sports performance specialist Ashley Fluger CSCS, CPT, in an article about the effectiveness of modified push-ups.
"Performing a modification of an exercise is definitely not cheating or less effective," said Fluger.
"An exercise modification is more dependent on your fitness level and health and injury history," she added.
Additionally, Fluger explained that core strength is key for push-ups and increasing the strength of trunk muscles will help with a one’s ability to maintain proper alignment.
