Orthopedics This Week—May 30, 2017
Orthopedics This Week featured the recently announced partnership between Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) and Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). HSS will serve as the first official hospital for UFC.
Louis A. Shapiro, president and CEO of HSS, said "HSS' purpose is to help people get back to what they need and love to do, better than any other place in the world. We are privileged to now support UFC as we do other high performing athletic organizations including the Brooklyn Nets, New York Giants, New York Knicks, New York Mets, New York Red Bulls, New York Road Runners and many others."
The article noted that HSS Chief of Sports Medicine and Shoulder Service, Bryan T. Kelly, MD, will serve as UFC's Head Consulting Orthopedic Surgeon, and will be on-call during UFC events for orthopedic consultation.
Emil Calcano, assistant vice president, Global Sports Marketing and Business Development at HSS, said "HSS has a long history of treating high performing athletes locally, nationally and globally. It was a natural fit to align ourselves with UFC, a premium global sports brand."
Mr. Calcano added, "we look forward to strengthening this new relationship with UFC over the next few years by expanding our medical coverage at the UFC headquarters in Las Vegas and beyond."
