My Fitness Pal featured HSS physiatrist Jonathan S. Kirschner, MD, RMSK, in an article about selecting the proper pillow to improve overall quality of sleep.
"Tossing and turning is a normal part of sleep [that’s] helpful for the musculoskeletal system, since movement prevents muscles and joints from becoming too stiff," said Dr. Kirschner.
However, he added that constant movement could be a sign of poor sleep quality.
For side sleepers, Dr. Kirschner recommended placing a pillow between the knees to maintain neutral spine alignment.
