Modern Healthcare—December 2, 2017
As part of the Hospital’s initiative to optimize patient success after surgery, Modern Healthcare reported that HSS collects patient-reported outcomes with the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) survey.
HSS chief value medical officer Catherine H. MacLean, MD, PhD said "with patient-reported outcomes, we can measure not just the pain but the quality of life."
Once the survey is complete, the responses are integrated into the patient’s online medical records for physician review.
Although it can be a challenge to collect patient feedback by email, Dr. MacLean said encouragement from doctors has proven successful in raising online response rates.
Additionally, she noted that disease-specific questions will give the care team better insight into how their patients are improving over a period of time.
