Letter to the Editor: Let’s Improve ObamaCare, Not Replace It

The Wall Street Journal—May 1, 2017

In a 'Letter to the Editor' published by The Wall Street Journal on May 1, 2017, Louis A. Shapiro, president and CEO of Hospital for Special Surgery, discussed how Obamacare should be renovated, rather than repealed and replaced. The letter noted that "most of us agree with the Affordable Care Act’s founding principles: improve quality, improve access and reduce cost. We should honor these principles and proceed with caution as we consider fixing what people perceive to be broken."

Mr. Shapiro suggested starting points for improvement such as "encourage innovation and ensure the U.S. continues to lead in this area," and "drive health and wellness as an investment and provide incentives for prevention."

The letter was written as a response to The Wall Street Journal article published on April 10, 2017.
