CBS 2 Medical Anchor Dr. Max Gomez visits Joshua S. Dines, MD, sports medicine surgeon at Hospital for Special Surgery, to learn about a new minimally invasive procedure for torn rotator cuffs that may be an alternative for reverse shoulder replacement. This technique is best for younger patients (in their 40s and 50s) who either had a failed rotator cuff repair or just neglected the tear for too long.
"If you don't have a rotator cuff, we need to create something that keeps the ball centered on the socket and stabilizes it to allow the bigger muscles to work well," said Dr. Dines.
