Jo Hannafin, MD, Named Team Physician For Pan American Games

New York, NY—July 28, 2003

Greenwich resident Jo Hannafin, MD, was named Team Physician for Pan American Games by the US Olympic Committee. Dr. Hannafin, an orthopedic surgeon and co-founder of the Women’s Sports Medicine Center at Hospital for Special Surgery, will cover rowing, canoeing and kayaking at the games which take place in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic from August 1-16.

Dr. Hannafin has served as a team physician for US Rowing since 1994, is currently the team physician for the WUSA NY Power and was the Chief Medical Officer at the world rowing championships in Seville in 2002. A former rower, Dr. Hannafin was a member of the silver medalist lightweight double at the 1984 World Rowing Championships and was a three-time gold medalist at the U.S. National Rowing Championships. Her own interest in sports medicine was sparked by an ACL injury she received while in it college.

Dr. Hannafin resides in Greenwich, with her husband and three children. She practices at the Old Greenwich Affiliate Office of Hospital for Special Surgery.
