Eric J. Hall, president and CEO of HealthCare Chaplaincy Network, writes a bylined piece for The Huffington Post on patient experience during the holidays.

He describes how hospitals are trying to relieve the 'December effect', that the holiday season can be a gloomy time for bedridden patients.

He reports that Hospital for Special Surgery nurses are advocates for letting the staff know which patients are dealing with grief. In additional, hospital volunteers send Santa bearing gifts to visit pediatric patients on Christmas day.
