Health Monitor featured HSS rheumatologist Allan Gibofsky, MD in an article about how rheumatoid arthritis affects the body.
The article noted that with rheumatoid arthritis, the body’s immune system can change over time and affect symptoms. "Many factors are involved in the workings of the immune system. When these factors get out of balance, problems can result. Your doctor's challenge is to get them back into a reasonable balance," Dr. Gibofsky explained.
Additionally, Dr. Gibofsky noted that as the disease changes over time, patients should be mindful that their treatment plans may change as well to address different issues.
