Is Scoliosis Preventable? Considering Genetics' Impact

US News & World Report—March 17, 2016

Han Jo Kim, MD, a spine surgeon at Hospital for Special Surgery, is a contributing author for a recent US News & World Report article about the genetics of scoliosis.

According to Dr. Kim, "It is likely that scoliosis is a result of a combination of genetics and neurological, environmental and behavioral factors." In addition, "Regardless of the specific etiology of scoliosis, if you have it, or suspect you have it, my recommendation would be to see a spine surgeon who specializes in scoliosis as soon as possible in order to get 'plugged in.'"
