In an article on Naples Florida Weekly, HSS rheumatologist Vivian P. Bykerk, BSc, MD, FRCPC discussed how to treat rheumatoid arthritis.
According to Dr. Bykerk, early detection is important to increase the chance of treatment being successful. "If we can get you into low disease activity by six months and remission (no signs of the disease) by one year, we’ve got an incredibly good chance of the disease having a very minimal impact on your life," she said.
On choosing the right treatment for a patient, Dr. Bykerk said "we consider the combination of signs, symptoms and blood tests".
