Injured On Board

Dockwalk—June 1, 2018

Dockwalk featured HSS physiatrist James F. Wyss, MD, PT, who addressed how to treat common injuries from yachting.  

"Low back pain is very common in crew," said Dr. Wyss. He recommended icing the affected area for 15 minutes every hour.

"I think ice is the most valuable thing to have in your home," Dr. Wyss added.

Additionally, he advised staying active during the recovery process.

"Across the board, you look at studies, sometimes it doesn’t matter what kind of exercise you do; the key thing [is that] exercising helps the back recover," he said.
