Dance Magazine interviewed Douglas E. Padgett, MD, chief of the adult reconstruction and joint replacement service at HSS, on if dancers need hip replacements.
Dr. Padgett said dancers will most likely not need a hip replacement, but added "those who end up needing one typically start off with some kind of abnormality of the joint." Dr. Padgett has performed hip replacements on more than 100 dancers at HSS.
