Three HSS Executives Recognized for Achievements in the New York Health Care Community

New York, NY—August 6, 2018

Three senior leaders at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) have been named to Crain’s New York Business inaugural Notable Women in Health Care in NYC list: Lisa Goldstein, chief operating officer; Catherine H. MacLean, MD, PhD, chief value medical officer; and Hollis Potter, MD, chair of the Department of Radiology and Imaging.

This list is part of a year-long series from Crain’s to celebrate women in the workplace.

In order to qualify, nominees were required to be in the health care industry in the New York City metropolitan area, in an administrative or clinical role.

The finalists were selected by a Crain’s team including award-winning health care journalist Barbara Benson, based on a combination of professional achievements, community service, track record of mentoring others, and promotion of diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

"We are pleased to have three colleagues honored for their exceptional professional, civic and philanthropic achievements," said Louis A. Shapiro, president and CEO of HSS. "We have cultivated a culture at HSS based on excellence, passion, integrity, creativity and teamwork, which supports career growth and leadership opportunities."

"Each member of the HSS family plays a vital role in the success of our organization," added Mr. Shapiro. "Dr. MacLean, Dr. Potter and Ms. Goldstein lead by example on our continuous path to 'better'."

Ms. Goldstein came to HSS in 1997 as executive vice president and chief operating officer, and has held this position ever since. In this role, she ensures that the quality of care and the patient experience helps HSS achieve its mission in an ever-changing health care environment. Ms. Goldstein leads operations and oversees all of the expansion and growth plans for the Hospital.

Dr. MacLean joined HSS in 2015 in the newly created role of chief value medical officer, where she leads the HSS Center for the Advancement of Value in Musculoskeletal Care. The center develops and deploys high value musculoskeletal care solutions by combining unmatched clinical and operational expertise, data assets and analytical skills.  She is nationally recognized as an expert on health care quality and value and has a diverse leadership experience. Additionally, Dr. MacLean serves on and is the immediate past chair of the performance measures committee for the American College of Physicians.

Dr. Potter started at HSS in 1990 as a radiologist and was appointed chair of the Department of Radiology and Imaging in 2013. As a radiologist, her passion is magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and previously served as chief of that division at HSS. She is the director of the NIH-funded MRI Laboratory and is recognized for her expertise in developing MRI applications for orthopedic conditions. She was both the first radiologist and first female to join the Hip Society.
