Know the Warning Signs of Post-Op Problems

HSS internist Alana Elise Sigmund, MD, FHM, explained potential post-surgical side effects and complications in Bottom Line Health.

According to Dr. Sigmund, redness and swelling around the incision are typically normal after surgery. However, if it starts to spread it could be an infection. She recommended that patients take a picture and reach out to their physician with questions.

Dr. Sigmund added that symptoms including shortness of breath, breathing and shock require prompt medical attention.
