Surprising Triggers of Inflammation

The Arthritis Foundation—September 5, 2017

The Arthritis Foundation featured HSS rheumatologist Susan M. Goodman, MD in an article about surprising inflammation triggers in different forms of arthritis.

According to Dr. Goodman, smoking sparks inflammation. In addition, she said that body fat produces chemicals that promote low-grade inflammation. If overweight, the article noted that losing weight is beneficial for the joints and decreases the levels of chemicals linked to inflammation.
