Marathon recovery tips from NYC fitness experts

AMNY featured HSS exercise physiologist Pamela Geisel, MS, CSCS, in an article about how to stay healthy and injury-free after a marathon.

"As soon as you stop running and receive your medal, be sure to keep walking," said Geisel.

She recommended putting on a heat sheet and keep moving for 30 minutes after the race to help the body return to resting level.

"Make sure you eat within 30 minutes of finishing. Eat carbohydrates to replenish depleted glycogen stores and protein to repair muscle damage, as well as water and electrolytes to rehydrate," Geisel added.
