Reporter Anuja Vaidya covers a recent study at Hospital for Special Surgery that found patients benefitted from one-on-one education sessions and access to an informational web portal before undergoing knee or hip replacement surgery.
Amar S. Ranawat, MD, a hip and knee surgeon at HSS, discusses the study and education program that was implemented at the hospital in January 2016.
"Study design and intervention was unique in the sense that the study was focused on educating patients about surgical recovery processes in a one-on-one setting as opposed to group class only," said Dr. Ranawat. "The study also had an additional web component that had similar content as taught in the one-on-one session, which patients could see at a later time in case they needed to review any of the content."
