AARP reporter Hallie Levine reports on the best exercises to quell back, knee and hip pain.

For back pain, kegels "strengthen the transversus abdominis, one of the major core muscles that support the lower back," explains Christi Reinhardt PT, DPT, OCS, physical therapist at HSS.

Reinhardt also recommends bridges. "People often assume a plank is best for core and back strength, but if you do it wrong, it can irritate the back." A hip bridge works all the same muscles but can be more forgiving towards your back.
