HSS has been a pioneer in the advancement of musculoskeletal technologies for decades. By leveraging biomedical sciences and the resources available at the #1-ranked hospital for orthopedics in the nation, our surgeons, physicians, and scientists have been able to develop novel products and platforms that deliver more effective, less invasive, and less costly care.
Life Sciences innovations are primarily generated and developed internally at HSS, though some innovations are achieved through partnership with external parties. Most of the HSS life sciences pipeline is generated by either HSS scientists focusing on ideas rooted in basic research and discovery, or HSS doctors developing ideas rooted in clinical practice. Both are focused on identifying mechanisms underlying musculoskeletal and autoimmune conditions, and discovering and developing effective approaches for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of orthopedic and rheumatic diseases. Technology Development Office
The HSS Innovation Center works closely with our scientists and surgeons to bridge the funding/development gap between discovery-stage technology and commercialization. Learn more about how to work with us as an HSS inventor or external partner through the Technology Development Office.
In addition, the HSS Innovation Center will work with inventors through our HSS Accelerator to pilot, validate, and advance select innovations that are aligned with HSS’s needs and priorities. The HSS “Living Laboratory” provides a stage for prototype development, design refinement, clinical studies, and animal/human trials with the help of HSS Biomechanics, Engineering, and Biostatistics, and Research.
