Our Specialties

Adult Reconstruction & Joint Replacement (ARJR)

Physicians at HSS pioneered the first modern knee replacement that was used worldwide in 1974. Today, surgeons in the ARJR Division continue to lead the field in both innovation and number of hip and knee replacement surgeries performed each year.

Foot and Ankle

Complex, constantly impacted, rugged, yet intricately balanced, feet and ankles are some of the most frequently injured areas of the body. HSS leads a multidisciplinary approach to properly diagnosis your condition and provide an effective treatment plan.

Pediatric Orthopedics

HSS treats thousands of infants, children, and adolescents each year. At HSS Long Island, we provide diagnosis and treatment of conditions like scoliosis, limb length discrepancies, clubfoot, hip dysplasia, and fractures.

Physiatry

The physiatrists at HSS specialize in nonsurgical treatments of spinal and sports-related injuries, as well as diagnostic studies to determine whether patients have nerve or muscular disorders such as lumbar or cervical radiculopathy, carpal tunnel syndrome, and other debilitating conditions.

Spine

At HSS, you have the world’s best clinical team at your side with more experience in complex spine surgery than any other hospital in the world. We are committed to researching and advancing techniques to be less invasive and produce safer and longer lasting results.

Physician Office Visits

Whether it is a first-time injury or a chronic condition, HSS expert physicians and surgeons employ the most advanced techniques to establish a precise diagnosis and treatment plan. Noninvasive care such as casting and bracing are available for your recovery.

Injections

Our Special Procedures Unit (SPU) offers convenient access to pain management (or pain treatment) procedures in an ambulatory setting instead of the operating room.

Radiology and Imaging / MRI

  • All examinations are interpreted by fellowship-trained musculoskeletal radiologists and are consulted internationally for their expertise in image interpretation specifically MRI interpretations.
  • All HSS MRI’s are performed utilizing high spatial resolution/thin slice imaging to demonstrate definitive diagnosis for any orthopedic condition with specific interest to cartilage and labral health.
  • Customized orthopedic protocols have been developed specific to each referring physician's specialized surgical needs. All of our joint protocols have been validated against a surgical standard and DO NOT require intra-articular gadolinium contrast.
  • Specialized scanning is performed for detailed diagnostic examinations despite orthopedic hardware and total joint replacements. The use of MAVRIC (Multi-Acquisition Variable-Resonance Image Combination) for all areas with metal presence which accurately provides greater detail of any joint arthroplasty/fracture hardware by markedly reducing the metallic distortion normally seen on routine MR imaging.
  • Modified MRI pulse sequences have been devised at HSS allowing for early detection of degenerative changes in cartilage and the potential for intervention. The use of quantitative T2 Mapping allows for assessment of the collagen component of the extracellular matrix of articular cartilage.

Postoperative Care

Attending scheduled follow-up care after your orthopedic procedure is integral to getting back on your feet. Many of our surgeons spend time at HSS Long Island so patients can spend less time traveling and more time recovering close to home.
