Frequently Asked Questions

What is CLASS-Rheum?

CLASS-Rheum is a research-based curriculum for Rheumatology fellows. The curriculum is made up of sets of questions (“Question Sets”) to support learning and assessment of knowledge and skills in biostatistics and epidemiology.

What is Learning Catalytics?

Learning Catalytics is the software platform that houses the CLASS-Rheum question database which you and your fellows will use to answer and review responses to questions.

Who developed CLASS-Rheum?

CLASS-Rheum was developed by Rheumatologists Juliet Aizer, MD, MPH and Lisa A. Mandl, MD, MPH of Hospital for Special Surgery/Weill Cornell Medical College, and Educational Researcher Julie Schell, EdD at The University of Texas at Austin. The project was created through support from the Hospital for Special Surgery Academy of Medical Educators, Innovation in Education Grant and the Weill Cornell Medical College Clinical and Translational Research Center, NIH UL1TR000457.

What are CLASS-Rheum Question Sets?

The CLASS-Rheum curriculum is organized into Question Sets. In CLASS-Rheum, unique Question Sets will be released every six months over two years. While each Question Set covers the same learning objectives, the questions are different.

How were the CLASS-Rheum Question Sets developed?

The CLASS-Rheum Development Team reviewed high-impact Rheumatology journals to identify concepts fundamental to understanding and appraising the current Rheumatology literature.  Questions were beta-tested in a variety of settings and were also peer-reviewed.

What is a Module in Learning Catalytics?

Within in each Question Set there are 12 Modules of 3-9 questions each. Each module focuses on a specific content area.

What is a Session in Learning Catalytics?

When a Module is available for fellows to use, it is called a “Session” and given an 8-digit number.

What kind of device do I need to use CLASS-Rheum?

For fellows, any web-enabled device can be used.  We recommend Program Directors use a PC or MAC to monitor fellows’ progress.

How do I provide fellows with access to CLASS-Rheum?
