Hyung Jin (Peter) Sun, MS

Design Engineer

Peter’s interest in the applications of mechanical engineering to biological materials and designs from a biomechanical perspective began with undergraduate research at Boston University. Under Professor Katherine Y. Zhang, Peter studied the time-dependent effects of cholesterol deposition on mechanical stiffening of macroscopic elastic and viscoelastic properties of aortic elastin.

During his Master’s program in Mechanics of Solids at Brown University, he specialized in finite element analysis to build a foundation for medical device designs directly impacting human health. While completing his Master’s degree, Peter spent a summer as an intern at Hospital for Special Surgery where his interest in orthopaedics grew. After completion of his MS, he returned to HSS to work as a full-time design engineer, focusing on design of patient-specific implants for hip and knee replacement procedures.
