Return to Athletic Activity After Spine Fusion for Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis

Mentor

Roger F. Widmann, MD

Scope

In this study, we hypothesize that return to athletic activity will be influenced by various patient demographic and surgical factors after spine fusion for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. We will correlate return to activity as well as various clinical outcome measures with several variables including age, BMI, extent of fusion, and severity of scoliosis. Be identifying which variables are correlated with later return to activity and poorer functional outcome, we can help guide patients (and surgeons) regarding return to play and outcome based on distinct clinical and demographic data. Medical student responsibilities will be assigned on an individual basis.
