OVERVIEWTotal knee replacement remains one of the most successful orthopaedic operations of this century. The surgical techniques and materials used in this procedure are constantly evolving. This symposium is designed to provide participants with an update in surgical techniques; strategies to provide optimal care and manage post-operative complications; and the ability to identify and appraise the current controversies in the care and treatment of knee disorders in various patient populations.
OBJECTIVESHSS activities are intended to improve the quality of patient care and safety. At the conclusion of the course, the participant should be able to:
- Describe current non-surgical approaches for knee arthritis and incorporate them into their practice.
- Discuss various primary total knee techniques and implement them in their practice.
- Explain current technology available in TKA including patient-specific instrumentation, disposable and smart instruments and robotic replacement.
- Improve their performance by implementing AAOS initiatives to reduce errors in their practice.
- Use the newest treatment options in joint replacement such as cross-linked polyethylene and Vitamin E polyethylene, kinematics, computer aids in ligament balance, PSI and advanced femoral bearing.
- Discuss registry data, mechanical guides and robot-assisted unicompartmental knee techniques.
