About Dr. Butler

Dr. Matthew Butler is a board certified hand and upper extremity surgeon at HSS Florida. He has over a decade of experience with extensive expertise and skill in treating a wide range of conditions affecting the hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder in patients of all ages. Dr. Butler believes in taking a patient-centered approach to helping others reach their goals and function at their highest possible level, using arthroscopic and minimally invasive treatments when possible. He prides himself on staying up to date on new and innovative surgical techniques.

After completing his undergraduate studies at The University of Notre Dame, where he graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Biochemistry, Dr. Butler earned his medical degree at The University of Florida where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society and earned the William Enneking award for his performance in orthopedics. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency training at Vanderbilt University followed by a fellowship in hand and microvascular surgery at the renowned Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center. While in training, Dr. Butler learned advanced techniques in the field of hand and upper extremity surgery including microsurgical reconstruction.

Prior to returning to Florida, Dr. Butler spent over a decade in practice at one of the largest upper extremity centers in the Midwest. He has lectured regionally and nationally on topics in the field of hand and upper extremity surgery and regularly collaborates with other leaders in his field. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery with a certificate of added qualification in hand surgery.
