Else Adler Physiatry Research Award

The Physiatry Department "Else Adler Research Award" started by Gregory Lutz, MD, Physiatrist-in-Chief

History
In July of 2001, a patient of Dr. Gregory Lutz was so impressed with the option of physiatric treatment as an alternative to surgery that she donated $25,000 from her late mother's estate towards rehabilitation research via The Physiatry Research and Education Fund at HSS. She attended the first presentation and decided that she personally would like to donate additional monies to be used as Second- and Third-Place prizes. In June 2003, the patient again attended and brought her sister, and they were both very pleased to have started such a fitting tribute to their mother's memory.

Awards
The awards offered are $5,000, $2,500, and $1,000, which will be presented to a Physiatry resident or fellow who has demonstrated excellence in musculoskeletal research. We are planning on offering these awards annually for the next 5 years. These monies are unrestricted and could be used to fund ongoing research or other related educational expenses for the recipients.

The resident/fellow who applies for this award should be one of the principal investigators of the study.
