GMA Health begins a news series on the Science of Sport. Filmed at the Sports Rehabilitation and Performance Center at Hospital for Special Surgery, the series' host is sports medicine physician Jordan Metzl, M.D., who is in the Sports Medicine Service at Hospital for Special Surgery.

The first topics in the series are running analysis with Robert Maschi, PT, DPT, CSCS, and VO2 Max testing (aka Maximum Oxygen Consumption or Aerobic Capacity) and lactate profiles with Polly de Mille, RN, MA, RCEP, CSCS, Exercise Physiologist.

Dr. Metzl and the HSS therapists look at the rigors of running, what goes into sport, what keeps athletes healthy, how they stay injury free and performing well.

Runner Deborah Chin also demonstrates how runners train for the marathon.
