Putz out at least two days

New York Post—May 14, 2009

The Mets New York Mets confirmed today that reliever J.J. Putz has a bone spur in his right (pitching) elbow and will be unavailable for at least the first two games of the San Francisco series that starts tonight.

Putz has been suffering from a noticeable drop in his velocity of at least 5 mph recently, and the team was concerned enough to send him to Hospital for Special Surgery on Wednesday for an MRI exam.

The Mets say Putz will not need surgery and should be able to return to the bullpen by this weekend as long as he responds to the cortisone shot he received after the MRI.
