'Little Couple' talk about show, leading Houston's 65th Thanksgiving Day Parade

Houston Chronicle—November 19, 2014

When reality TV star Bill Klein glanced at his cell phone earlier this fall, he saw a text message from friend and KHOU Channel 11 talk show host Deborah Duncan. "Hey guys," the message said, "want to be the grand marshals of the Thanksgiving Day parade?"

Klein, the husband and dad in cable network TLC's "The Little Couple," wasn't familiar with the decades-old Houston tradition that brings thousands of families downtown on the holiday. He is from New York. Also, Klein wasn't sure he'd be physically able to walk or even sit - risky back surgery was looming in his near future.

Klein's operation was done at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York six weeks ago. He can't say much about the procedure because it is covered extensively on the next season of the reality show, which resumes Dec. 2. He does acknowledge that if the operation hadn't gone well, he might have spent the rest of his life in a wheelchair.

The parade crowd will be able to see with their own eyes that Klein is fine.

"I'm a little stiff and sore, but all things considered," he says, "I'm doing pretty darn well."
