'Silent' Celiac Disease Found in Kids at Rheumatology Clinic

Medscape Medical News reports that "Silent" celiac disease (CD), or CD without gastrointestinal symptoms, was present in 2.0% of children presenting for initial pediatric rheumatology evaluation, according to researchers from Hospital for Special Surgery.

Hospital for Special Surgery's pediatric rheumatologist Thomas J.A. Lehman, MD, and a research team found that 36 patients had previously unsuspected CD.
