Daniel Murphy and Fernando Martinez both flew from the Dominican Republic, where they were playing winter ball, to New York to be examined by team doctors. Murphy, who has been working to refine his second base skills after a year lost to leg injuries, suffered a hamstring injury the Mets are calling "soreness".
The oft-injured Martinez returned to action just recently after more knee problems during the regular season. But he abruptly was shut down again with what the team termed "stiffness" in his right knee.
Both players were examined by Mets team physician Dr. Struan Coleman at Hospital for Special Surgery, and results are expected today.
