Leading Rheumatologist Dr. Stephen Paget is Available to Comment on a Recent CDC Study on the Impact of Arthritis in the Workplace
NEW YORK, N.Y.—October 12, 2007
A recent study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that 33 percent of U.S. workers with arthritis suffered work limitations in 2003.
"What makes this study so surprising is that people and even doctors have always underestimated the prevalence of arthritis and its profound impact upon people in the prime of their active lives," said Stephen A. Paget, MD, FACP, FACR, physician-in-chief and chairman of the Division of Rheumatology, Hospital for Special Surgery. "This should be considered a 'call to arms' to spread the word about what common arthritis is and how it can dash the hopes of people with it."
Dr. Paget adds that, given the expanded life span and enlarging elderly population who want to continue to be productive and mobile people, there is an urgent need for further support for research into the causes of and cures for arthritis.
