An Important Message from Hospital for Special Surgery

Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) is a world leader in infection control and patient safety. Our priority is providing our patients the highest quality care in the safest environment possible. As news and updates about Ebola are evolving, HSS’ focus continues to be on vigorous prevention.

Until further notice, the Hospital is asking anyone who has visited Guinea, Liberia, Mali, or Sierra Leone within the past 21 days to not enter any HSS facility until the 21-day time period has passed.

HSS is following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines and will continue to update processes and protocols as any new information or guidance is received. An HSS Ebola Task Force has been established and is continuously monitoring, evaluating and acting upon the best and latest information to maximize safety. A Rapid Response Team is in place and staff are participating in training exercises and educational sessions on Personal Protective Equipment. The Hospital is also working closely with the Greater New York Hospital Association, the Department of Health, the CDC, as well as neighboring hospitals.

It is unlikely that a patient with symptoms will seek care at HSS because we are a specialty Orthopedic and Rheumatology Hospital and do not have an emergency room. Despite this lower risk, this does not lessen our responsibility to protect all patients, visitors, and staff.  The Hospital is following stringent protocols and prevention measures are in place to keep all at HSS safe and healthy.
