HSS Orthopedic Knowledge Exchange in China

The HSS Orthopedic Knowledge Exchange provides a unique opportunity for Chinese orthopedic surgeons and trainees to gain valuable knowledge and experience through professional education programs. Structured observation programs at Hospital for Special Surgery, participation in educational programs through live video conferencing along with attendance at annual symposia held in China are several offerings of the Exchange. Qualified applicants from medical centers throughout China are encouraged to apply to the HSS Orthopedic Knowledge Exchange Program.

Clinical Observation

Program Highlights

  • Observation with one of the following services:
    • Adult Reconstruction and Joint Replacement
    • Anesthesiology, Critical Care & Pain Management
    • Foot and Ankle
    • Rehabilitation
    • Spine
    • Sports Medicine
    • Trauma
  • Observation in the operating room and outpatient clinic
  • Daily schedule based on observation preferences
  • Observation of morning rounds with HSS attending surgeons
  • Observation of patient flow and perioperative services
  • Attendance at weekly educational conferences
  • Access to the HSS Kim Barrett Memorial Library

Applicant Criteria

  • High level of English proficiency
  • Demonstrates leadership potential
  • Has completed at least ten years of medical training

Application Process

Step 1: All candidates must submit the online application with the following supporting documentation:

  • Medical school diploma
  • CV
  • Two personal statements
  • Two recommendation letters on official letterhead with signatures
  • Digital photo (passport size; 2" x 2")

Step 2: Selected applicants will be interviewed prior to acceptance into the program.

Step 3: Upon complete review of the application, successful candidates will be extended an invitation into the program along with additional information for registration and health clearance.

The entire selection process takes approximately three months from date of submission. Program start dates for accepted candidates are based upon availability and may last from two weeks to two months depending on the service.
Please note that there is a fee upon acceptance into the program.
