Ways to Give

A gift to HSS provides essential support for patient care, research, and community outreach. Because giving is a private matter and will vary based on resources, there are a number of different ways to give to HSS:

Outright Gifts
Outright gifts provide the Hospital with crucial support for all of its programs and activities – from research to clinical care. The simplest way to make an outright gift is to write a check to HSS Fund, Inc. Gifts can also be made in the form of securities, tangible personal property, or real estate.

Gifts of Endowment
A gift of endowment demonstrates your commitment to the Hospital well into the future. The gift is invested and maintained by HSS in perpetuity, and the income earned is used to support the purposes specified by the donor. Over time, an endowment fund grows and provides lasting and significant support for the Hospital’s work.

Planned Gifts
You can support Hospital for Special Surgery by making a planned gift, for example a provision for HSS in your will or by choosing to make a life income gift. Bequests of cash, securities, real property, or other assets to the Hospital entitle the donor's estate to a charitable deduction and provide tax advantages. Life income gifts, such as Charitable Gift Annuities, Charitable Remainder Trusts, or a gift to the HSS Pooled Income Fund, provide the donor with income for life or a set number of years. By creating a life income gift, donors receive an immediate tax deduction and are generally permitted to reduce capital gains tax. Matching Gifts
Many corporations show their support for HSS by matching their employees’ gifts to the Hospital. Consult your employer to find out if they participate in matching gift programs and whether they would join you in supporting HSS.

Named Gifts
Hospital for Special Surgery offers benefactors the opportunity to contribute named gifts that serve as an enduring reminder of their special commitment to HSS. Gifts may also be contributed in honor or memory of loved ones and friends. Commemorative plaques will be appropriately displayed, honoring the commitment to HSS.
