Our C2C team is available to assist you before your arrival and during your stay at HSS. We are dedicated to helping you during your visit by ensuring that you and your family are comfortable and that your concerns are addressed. The services that we coordinate are described below.
If you are considering traveling from out of town to seek care at Hospital for Special Surgery, our Physician Referral Service can help coordinate your medical appointments with specialists and diagnosticians. Once you are here with us, if there are additional appointments to schedule with specialists, our trained staff can help refer you to the appropriate doctor. For assistance in arranging appointments, please complete our online form or call 212.606.1555.
For those visiting from out of town, HSS has partnered with several hotels in the area that offer various price points, amenities, and services. Refer to our Accommodative Partnership Guide to help select which hotel or extended stay property best suits your lodging needs. Be sure to mention HSS upon booking to receive a special discounted rate.

While many patients choose to stay in our semi-private inpatient rooms following surgery, HSS also offers four types of private inpatient rooms:
The Premier and Premier Select rooms located on our 11 North unit feature a larger seating area and an additional set of amenities for your comfort. To learn more about our various room types or to request a private room, please speak with our C2C Team.
HSS is committed to providing you with the medical attention and nursing care you need to ensure a rapid and safe recovery. However, you may elect to have your own private duty care. The Hospital offers ACCESS private duty nursing services for those patients who would like a registered nurse or aide at bedside during all or part of their stay. You can call ACCESS directly at 212.774.7187 or speak with the C2C Team to coordinate this service. There is also an ACCESS office located at HSS on the 4th floor by the main elevators for your convenience.
Patient Family Atrium
The Patient Family Atriums, located on the 1st, 4th and 9th floors of the Main Hospital, and 2nd floor of our Special Procedures Center, are special waiting areas where patient families and loved ones may stay on the day of surgery. Your surgeon or members of the healthcare team will communicate with family members in the atrium once surgery is completed. A public wireless internet connection is accessible for laptops with wireless capability. Due to space limitations, we request that only two visitors accompany patients on the day of surgery. Please review the HSS visitation and luggage guidelines for additional information.
The Belaire Café, located on the plaza level in Belaire Building, 525 East 71st Street, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and is open Monday to Friday from 7:00am - 6:00pm to outpatients and visitors.
There are refreshment stands located at the main entrance and on the 4th and 9th floors of the Hospital.
Our Volunteer-operated Patient Library, open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00am – 1:00pm, provides reading materials for you and your family. The Library Cart, which circulates to inpatient units, also offers magazines and books. Please ask your nurse if you would like something to read from the Patient Library or call 212.606.1228.
A Chase ATM is located in the main lobby of the Belaire Building near the security desk.
Religious and Spiritual Needs
The Pastoral Care team is a multi-faith chaplaincy available to provide emotional and spiritual support during the process of treatment and healing. This service is offered to both patients and families during their stay at HSS. If you would like to learn more, please visit Pastoral Care at HSS. There is also a non-denominational chapel housed within HSS on the 8th Floor; it is open 24 hours daily. Mailing Letters and Packages
There is a United States Mail Postal Service mailbox on the wall near the elevators in the Main Hospital lobby. The C2C team will be glad to assist you with mailing packages or obtaining postage. There are also two U.S. Post Offices in the neighborhood.
Patients traveling by car can be let off in the Hospital's driveway directly outside of the main lobby. Since street parking in Manhattan is extremely limited, it may be necessary for a car to be parked in a commercial garage. While HSS does not validate parking at this time, we recommend you review the HSS Parking Guide for a list of nearby parking garages that offer discounts at various times of day.
There are many options for traveling to HSS. Our Neighborhood Directory lists suggested travel agencies for making your arrangements. It also lists local airports and airlines and trains and buses, as well as ambulette and car services to and from HSS. If you need any additional information regarding parking, transportation, or directions, our C2C Team is glad to assist you.
