The New York State Osteoporosis Prevention Through Education Program (NYSOPEP) is an education initiative dedicated to providing the most accurate and current information about the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis. In 1997, the New York State Department of Health established five NYSOPEP centers throughout the state. Hospital for Special Surgery is the regional NYSOPEP center for the metropolitan and Long Island area. Under the leadership of Dr. Laura Robbins, the NYSOPEP Center at Hospital for Special Surgery has successfully focused on reaching diverse communities and women across the age span in order to achieve the goal of promoting osteoporosis awareness. As part of this commitment, we have NYSOPEP fact sheets on various osteoporosis topics. For more information about NYSOPEP or to request educational materials, please feel free to contact Robyn Wiesel, Public and Patient Education Coordinator at 212.606.1057, or go to http://www.nysopep.org/.
